If you call 911, and report a person is NOT BREATHING or NO PULSE, the 911 system with Ready Alert will send alerts to the St Catherine Volunteer First Responders, Ambulance and the Fire Department.  Our First Responders also respond to choking, seizure activity & drowning.

First Responders will only be dispatched to the home for these two reasons ONLY.

Volunteer First Responders will come as quickly as possible, and will bring an AED device from a locked cabinet. ONLY Volunteer First Responders have the combination for the locks because you must be trained & be active on this team.

There are over 110 volunteer First Responders, your neighbors & friends and we expect one or more to arrive within minutes of the alert. They will perform CPR, and use the AED device if appropriate unless there is a DNR (do-not-resuscitate order).  Fire department/Ambulance personnel will take over when they arrive and direct the Volunteer First Responders.

The cabinets are locked to reduce the chance that devices are stolen or vandalized and not available when needed, or are used by people not trained or authorized.  If a resident of St Catherine wants to be trained to be a Volunteer First Responder, there is a process to do that.
